Wellesley Township Recreation Centre: Project Update

Since December 2021, Ball Construction has been busy, working hard to bring this new multiuse recreation facility to life for The Township of Wellesley. This incredible vision started to become a reality on November 17th, 2023, when posted occupancy was achieved for 300 community members to enjoy the arena, change room and washroom section of the new facility. There is already a strong flow of community members entering the new building, enjoying the activities that the facility already has to offer such as figure skating, minor hockey, and curling events! Working seamlessly, the Ball team and Consultants were able to make this partial occupancy happen.

With the facility being partially open, that means there is a great deal of work that has already been completed. The community can already look forward to enjoying the new soccer pitches, multi-use sports courts and a skatepark! Inside you can find an NHL-sized ice pad, new bleacher seating plus bench seats and lastly several new change rooms (2 of which are barrier-free) and a custom change room for the Wellesley Applejacks Junior C hockey team. The next phase including the Blueline Club and main lobby are now open. Thus going forward, these areas will be available to be used for minor hockey and Applejack games!

Although the arena will be fully open to the community, Ball will continue working to complete a number of smaller tasks, with a planned completion in January 2024. These tasks include putting the final touches on the public bathrooms, kitchen, fitness facility, gym and both the youth and senior centres.

Lastly, the new Health Care Centre will be completed by February 2024. The building will offer a wide variety of health care services, as the centre will host examination rooms, a counselling office, dentistry rooms, chiropody examination rooms and much more.
