Project Details

The design of this 140,000 SF recreational facility includes a two-storey, multi-purpose building.  This $36M multi-use community centre has two NHL-sized ice pads, large multi-purpose room with a warming kitchen, double gymnasium, several change rooms and staff rooms.  Another feature is the two-storey open main atrium with a bridge connecting the arena portion with the gymnasium and the multi-purpose area.

Key building materials are masonry and brick, precast concrete and metal panels.

The Challenge

Meeting the schedule and budget were the biggest challenges.

The Ball Solution

Ball Construction was engaged early in the design process to review and refine the design and establish a realistic budget.  Having the best suited project team and key subtrades that were pre-screened by Ball during the request for proposal stage was key in keeping the project on schedule and budget.

Various materials for the building enclosure were reviewed initially for aesthetics and durability, ultimately, they had to satisfy the budget.
